About Us

Seahorses Swim School is a small independent swim school in Torbay offering swimming lessons for children from age 3 and above.

The School was set up in April 2010 by Jacqui Goad and Doug Litt, two passionate swim instructors from Paignton.

Doug has now passed his share of the business over to Jacqui and now continues as a swim instructor alongside our team of highly experienced teachers – all qualified L2 Swim England (ASA) or equivalent.

Non-Swimmers

These groups are for those who have never had a swimming lesson or who may not have even been in a swimming pool before, up to those who can swim a small distance unaided.

All groups are kept to a maximum of 4 so that all Swim Instructors can give as much time and attention to each individual to ensure they have a positive experience and can build on their progress each week.

The first few lessons are spent working on basic water confidence and mobility skills in a friendly and fun environment so that each group member can build up trust with their allocated Instructor.

Each group is organised by similar ability with consideration to age, and the same Swim Instructor will normally take the group throughout the term.

Improvers

For those who are able to swim a short distance unaided and may or may not yet have experienced working in deep water.

Also for those who are working on their basic skills and for those wanting to improve their technique and to build up their core strength.

There are opportunities for individuals to progress from Seahorses Swim School into one of the local swim clubs or to have a go at Water Polo, and we can assist with these options – please ask for more details.

1:1’s (Limited availability)

The 1:1 lessons are offered to all ages who have an extreme fear of water, who have had a bad experience and lost confidence or may be older and never had the chance to learn to swim.

They are also designed for children with some disabilities and learning issues who would not be comfortable in a group environment. We do encourage where possible the integration of 1:1’s into a group where possible.
